21 Biblical Practices That Can Enhance Church Multiplication

These practices do not have to be done in the order presented; any activities may be done at any time and several may be done at the same time. They are equally applicable to churches and to cell groups which are little churches.

  1. Seek to saturate people groups and regions with reproducible churches.

  2. Combine evangelism with making disciples and training pastors.
    Matt. 10:7-10; Acts 2:41-43; 14:21-23; 18:24-26; Eph. 4:11-13. 
  3. Focus on neglected people-groups that are receptive to the gospel.

  4. Send your church's God-given "apostles" to plant churches in new areas.

  5. Form temporary, apostolic task groups that train local workers.
    Matt. 9:37-38; Col. 1:7; 4:12; 1 Cor. 12:28. 
  6. Penetrate local communities through family leaders who are "persons of peace."

  7. Let the Good News flow, using methods and equipment that locals can imitate.

  8. Keep trusting God for "signs and wonders".

  9. Announce the gospel to every people and call them to repentance and faith.

  10. Make disciples the way Jesus did, teaching them to obey all his commands.

  11. Confirm the faith of new believers by baptism, as Jesus said and the apostles did.

  12. Learn and teach others to lead small group worship in non-formal settings.

  13. Keep groups small enough to practice the "one-another's" and gift-based ministries.

  14. Teach churches to meet regularly in small groups and big groups.

  15. In new churches, make the Lord's Supper the center of worship.

  16. In new churches, teach people to give to meet urgent needs.

  17. Constantly evaluate methods for effectiveness and oppose harmful traditions.

  18. When opposed, resist the devil and draw near to God.

  20. Appoint "elders" in every church in every city.

  21. Recognize and teach every church's ability to reproduce itself.
