EARLY PAPYRUS & UNCIAL WITNESSES TO THE WORDS OF JESUS Adapted from The Text of the Greek New Testament by Aland & Aland, 1988
Of the abundance of manuscript evidence that establishes the text of the Greek New Testament books, those listed below are the earliest that substantiate the Gospels and the words of Jesus. Aland and Aland sort manuscripts into four categories:
Cat1 Very early manuscripts, useful for establishing the original text. Cat2 Early manuscripts with alien influences, useful for establishing the original text. Cat3 Distinctive manuscripts, useful for tracing the history of the text. Cat4 D text (very distinctive).
