01 2b: Call converts to repentance, not to mere decisions

Aim for heartfelt repentance and faith, not mere decisions:

Jesus requires repentance--turning from sin to God (Mark 1:15, etc.).
Only a small percentage of people who make personal 'decisions' in the traditional evangelistic campaigns follow through.
The Bible does not use the word 'decision' for conversion to Christ; it results in shallow evangelism.

Find in Luke 24:46-48 the place of repentance in the gospel proclamation as Jesus defined it.

Find in Acts 2:38 the importance of repentance in order to be saved.

Conduct interviews with folks in your churches or groups who you are convinced are truly born again:

Learn from them what they had to abandon in order to become a follower of Jesus.
Ask about their radical changes in knowledge, belief, emotions, values and behavior.
If you work cross-culturally, there may be issues that are clear to the people that you are not aware of. Others will likely have to repent of similar things.
