Section 05: NEW CHURCHES AND HOME GROUPS, Pastoral Level 2b

05 2b: Apprentice home group or ministry team leaders

To multiply home groups you need aggressive, ongoing leader training.

The method proven most effective is for existing home group leaders to apprentice new ones constantly.
Supplement this with regular or occasional workshops to deal with common concerns.
Limit attendance to these training sessions to the leaders. A new leader needs material to teach his people, that they are not also learning in the same session.

Find in 1 Timothy 3 qualifications for church leaders:

elders (shepherds, pastors or co-pastors),
deacons (helpers, persons who tend to physical needs).

*Find in I Samuel 16:1-13 how David was chosen, not on the basis of outward appearances, as leader of God's people.

At every coaching session you hold with group leaders:

Query them about their group's needs, challenges, and current vision.
Do this before you present any lesson or assignment.
Document in the leaders' files what you learned from them and what was the assignment you gave.
Help them plan for future activities (not just for meetings but also for evangelism, etc.).
Follow up these plans; hold them accountable.
