Let pastoral and social ministries reinforce each other.

• Apply the 'body' principle of 1 Corinthians chapters 12 - 13, in which the Holy Spirit harmonizes in love the different gift-based ministries as one united effort in the body.
• Help those with the gifts of mercy and evangelism, of compassion and church planting, to join forces as a team. Let them pray, plan and break bread together.
• Both areas of ministry will benefit by working in loving harmony, if both respect the other's ministry and gifts from God.

Arrange for workers with different gifts and interests to learn about each other's strengths.

• Complete and review the spiritual gift and skill profiles of your members who are willing to do outreach, whether social or spiritual.
• Review the profiles of each team member with the others, to help build respect.
• Have each team member express all they expect from the others, and ask each one to abandon expectations that cannot be fulfilled.

If outreach is to be in another community or country, then take the effort to learn what kind of development and church-planting resources are already there or nearby.

• Consider forming teams with locals where they have the skills. In that way, more new knowledge and skill will remain localized when your personnel withdraw.
