Section 06:
OVERSEEING AND PLANNING, Pastoral Level 2b
06 2b: Plan a calendar for church, family, and personal activities; manage time wisely
Together with coworkers, prayerfully schedule coming events.
- You might have two such calendars: a detailed one for you and your staff, and a less detailed one for the public, displayed in a prominent place.
- To assure good attendance, give enthusiastic attention in advance to special events.
- Avoid crowding calendars with detail. Do not fill in every time slot. Leave ample time each day for last minute ministry opportunities.
Find in Ephesians 5:15-17 guidelines to evaluate how we use the time God gives us.

Time management from a Christian perspective: Leadership Handbooks of Practical Theology, edited by James Berkeley, Volume 3: section 7
If you work cross-culturally in an area new to you, find out from local people their understanding of what are their regular and annual events.
- Do they enter these events on a calendar or some kind of published list?
- If there is a dominant religion, then avoid scheduling events that can bring down the ire of their authorities on you or on the followers of Christ.
- Find out from believers which of their traditional and religious events can be celebrated with a clear conscience, which can be given a new meaning, and which must be avoided by followers who want to honor Jesus.
