Take comfort to those who are hurting.

• Set the example for compassionate visiting. Pastors who seldom visit those who are suffering also fail to find others showing any great zeal for it.
• Recognize those who enjoy visiting. Have them give brief testimonials as to how God is working, during congregational services.
• Those who have been visited during a time of sickness are often highly motivated to do the same for others after they are healed.
• Many who are visited by compassionate Christians receive Christ. Suffering and grief prepare one to face reality.

Find those who enjoy visiting to bring comfort to people who are suffering or who need Christ.

• Every church has members with a spiritual gift for showing mercy. Ask your members who those persons might be.
• Ask these to go visiting with you until they get a passion to do it themselves.
• Do not overwork them, so that they get tired or neglect their families.
• Recognize publicly what they do.
