09 3d: Ground the flock in basic doctrine and doctrinal discernment

Help your teachers and small group leaders to review basic doctrine periodically, and to train their families and groups to discern God's basic truths.

Find in Romans 5:12-21 how Jesus the 'final Adam' compares by contrast with Adam of the Old Testament.

Find in 1 Corinthians 15 the importance and saving function of the resurrection of Christ and of ourselves, in Him.

Find in the book of Hebrews several Old Testament types that foreshadowed, and laid the legal foundation for, Jesus' prophetic and priestly roles.

Find in 2 Thessalonians the main error that Paul corrected.

*Find in Numbers 31 compared with 1 Corinthians 3:11-15 the rule for soldiers bringing booty into God's presence, and the burning of contraband.

To teach God's holiness and the fact that sin must be punished, relate these events that lay down the historical foundations for this major Christian doctrine:

To teach the unity of God, relate the account of Elijah and the prophets of Baal, 1 Kings 18.

Find in Isaiah 9:6-7 prophetic names of Jesus.

Find in Luke 21 prophecies of the final coming of Jesus.

Find in the book of Revelation prophecies of events associated with the coming of Jesus.

For a systematic study of doctrine: The Great Doctrines of the Bible by William Evans.

If you work cross culturally, then the basic doctrines may have to cover some points that do not have the same relevance to your own culture.

Then use the more relevant doctrines and scriptures to buttress the basic doctrines.
