Help your teachers and small group leaders to review basic doctrine periodically, and to train their families and groups to discern God's basic truths.

Find in Romans 5:12-21 how Jesus the 'final Adam' compares by contrast with Adam of the Old Testament.

Find in 1 Corinthians 15 the importance and saving function of the resurrection of Christ and of ourselves, in Him.

Find in the book of Hebrews several Old Testament types that foreshadowed, and laid the legal foundation for, Jesus' prophetic and priestly roles.

Find in 2 Thessalonians the main error that Paul corrected.

• Compare how this ancient law is applied in principle the New Testament to the works of the believer in Christ.

To teach God's holiness and the fact that sin must be punished, relate these events that lay down the historical foundations for this major Christian doctrine:

• the fall, Genesis chapters 2 - 3
• the flood, Genesis chapters 6 - 8
• the plagues and escape from slavery, Exodus chapters 1 - 15
• the giving of the Ten Commandments, Exodus 19 - 20
• the golden calf, Exodus 32

To teach the unity of God, relate the account of Elijah and the prophets of Baal, 1 Kings 18.

Find in Isaiah 9:6-7 prophetic names of Jesus.

Find in Luke 21 prophecies of the final coming of Jesus.

Find in the book of Revelation prophecies of events associated with the coming of Jesus.

For a systematic study of doctrine: The Great Doctrines of the Bible by William Evans.

If you work cross culturally, then the basic doctrines may have to cover some points that do not have the same relevance to your own culture.

• Form a work group of followers who will meet for one or two days to underscore the essential teachings for their society.
• Study together through the apostolic sermons in the book of acts. Have them list out all the points of doctrine that they find there.
• Then have them talk about each point till they and you feel they have understood it.
• Finally, ask them to note on a written scale how important each point is to their compatriots: Essential, Important, Interesting, and Mundane.
• For examples, societies where holy scriptures are respected will be more interested in what the prophets said about the coming one.
• Cultures that use mediators in business and family affairs will understand that ministry of Jesus.
• Where shame is a stronger emotion than is guilt, John's writings may make better sense than Paul's.

Then use the more relevant doctrines and scriptures to buttress the basic doctrines.
