12 3b: Develop creative teaching methods

Help your teachers to communicate as the prophets, apostles and Christ did: with many different methods besides lecturing. These methods include:

modeling skills on the job,
mentoring a small group and individuals (listening first, to teach just what their people need at the time),
group discussion,
ritual, symbol and drawings,
festival,
drama,
poetry,
music and song,
stories,
rich illustrations, comparisons, figures of speech,
penetrating questions.

*Find in Mark 4 how Jesus used stories and comparisons of common things to teach spiritual truths.

*List the parables in the gospels, and what each illustrates. Practice relating them by memory (not word for word, but as we would relate any interesting anecdote). The parables lend themselves to this; Jesus meant for us to pass them on.

Find in the book of Song of Solomon how drama and symbolism were used to communicate truth. How does this ancient drama illustrate our love for Christ?

Find in the book of Zechariah examples of how the prophet used symbols and figures to communicate truth.

If you work cross-culturally, observe the recurring, local educational practices in which people themselves are willing to participate.

Note seating arrangements, two-way exchanges, age span of those who attend, etc.
What audio-visuals do the people want to use, and can afford?

Note carefully the several media of communication (methods or equipment, radio, drama, etc.) that they use.

Who control the media? Outsider experts, local experts, the learners themselves?

Important: As a general rule, more people gain a greater understanding of a message when local persons remain in control of both the message and the media.
